Forever a Naut is one of Vasco's companion quests in Greedfall.

Objectives[]

  • Offer Vasco your help
  • Ask the Admiral for a mission
  • Find the wreckage of the Oriflamme
  • Investigate the wreckage of the Oriflamme
  • Find clues about what happened to the Oriflamme
  • Report back to the Admiral
  • (Conditional) Go get a tattoo
  • Accompany Vasco to the tattooist

Additional ending[]

It's possible for De Sardet to get a Naut tattoo as well, if The Prince's Secret has been completed prior to finishing this quest. After reporting back to Admiral Cabral, Vasco will request that De Sardet be allowed to join the Nauts. De Sardet can then accept or decline this offer. If accepted, De Sardet will receive the same chin tattoo as Vasco (a sea-given), despite being a sea-born.

Dialogue[]

Offer Vasco your help[]

  • Vasco: I intend to prove to the admiral that I fully identify as a Naut once more, without regrets. I will have to go through a test of loyalty. It will certainly be dangerous, but with your help, I am convinced that I will succeed. So, shall we go and see her?
    • Take care of it now
      • De Sardet: With pleasure. Let’s see what adventure she has in store for us.
    • Put it off until later
      • De Sardet: Another time, maybe. Alas, I am too busy at the moment.
      • Vasco: I understand. Come back when you have more time.

Ask the Admiral for a mission[]

  • Allow Vasco to speak about the ordeal he wants to pass
    • Admiral Cabral: Captain Vasco! I’m glad to see you again! Did you profit from your time on land?
    • Vasco: I did, Admiral. That’s why I've come to see you.
    • Admiral Cabral: You want me to entrust you with a loyalty mission?
    • Vasco: Indeed.
    • Admiral Cabral: Very well. A short time ago, we lost one of our ships near the island. The reputation of the Nauts suffered from it.
    • Vasco: I have heard about it. An incomprehensible sinking which fueled numerous rumors.
    • Admiral Cabral: We cannot let the land-dwellers think we are losing the sea. So, I need someone to investigate and restore our reputation.
    • Vasco: At your orders, Admiral, and with pleasure!
    • Admiral Cabral: The shipwreck is stranded on the shore, southwest of the island, not far from Wenshaveye.
    • Vasco: Thank you, Admiral.
    • Admiral Cabral: I’m counting on you, Captain Vasco.

Find the wreckage of the Oriflamme[]

  • Vasco: Look! There it is.
  • (If present) Síora: I have never seen a boat on its side like this. It looks like the corpse of a Morimíl!
  • (If present) Petrus: It’s sad, seeing a large ship on its side like this. It almost looks like a giant corpse.
  • (If present) Aphra: I must admit, it is awe-inspiring.
  • (If present) Kurt: I didn’t know your ships could break like this.

Investigate the wreckage of the Oriflamme[]

  • De Sardet: The corpses are chained up. These beasts were captive. Could they have died during the sinking?
  • Vasco: I don’t think so, they don’t seem to have drowned. Something bigger slaughtered them with no effort at all.
  • De Sardet: The hull was torn apart. And, given the way that the wood is broken, it came from the inside. Damn it, what happened here?
  • Vasco: There are scratch marks almost everywhere on the wood, but they do not look like the marks a reef would make.
  • De Sardet: It looks like an enormous cage. But look…
  • Vasco: It’s been broken. Is this ringing any bells for anyone else?

Find clues about what happened to the Oriflamme[]

  • De Sardet: This ship was apparently carrying creatures from the island. The largest one managed to escape and made a hole in the hull as it tried to run away, just like in Serene. The sailors did not stand a chance.
  • Vasco: The admiral will not be satisfied with our deductions. She will want concrete proof. Let’s keep searching.
  • (Upon finding the captain’s journal)
    • De Sardet: All the clues seem to corroborate the captain’s journal. This is the same thing that happened at the harbor in Serene. The guardian who was locked up on board freed itself and ripped apart the hull of the boat to get out.
    • Vasco: Yes, and my brothers had no means of saving their lives or the ship, alas. Let’s go back and explain this to the admiral. The captain’s journal will serve as proof.

Report back to the Admiral[]

  • Talk about Vasco’s ordeal
    • De Sardet: Regarding the mission you entrusted Captain Vasco with…
    • Vasco: We have come to give our conclusions.
    • Admiral Cabral: I’m listening.
    • Vasco: We examined the shipwreck and the surrounding area. A creature they carried on board managed to set itself free. An enormous beast, it made a hole in the hull and caused the sinking. We could only find dead bodies.
    • Admiral Cabral: Alas, I was expecting it. May the sea be their shroud, we shall not forget them. Did you find anything?
    • Vasco: The captain’s journal tells the tale of the ship from their departure to the sinking.
    • Admiral Cabral: Thank you, Vasco. It seems that the potions of the Alliance failed us once more. And rest assured, we will never transport another one of those creatures. They are too dangerous for our ships. Our honor is safe, thanks to you. You have proven your loyalty and you have regained my trust. What you have achieved for us all deserves to be a part of your history, Vasco.
      • (If The Prince’s Secret has not been completed yet)
        • Admiral Cabral: I will send someone to tell the tattooist. He’ll be waiting for you.
        • Result: Accompany Vasco to the tattooist
      • (If The Prince’s Secret has been completed)
        • Vasco: I am most grateful to you, Admiral, but I would like to request something.
        • Admiral Cabral: A request? Speak, Captain.
        • Vasco: As you know, De Sardet was sea-born, despite being taken away from us. I know that you have sent me on this assignment so that I would reflect on my own condition, but I believe that you were also hoping I would manage to make the legate want to join us. After proving to be invaluable and respectful of the Nauts, perhaps it’s time to officially recognize my companion’s birthright.
        • Admiral Cabral: If De Sardet wills it so, I would be glad to add a member to our family.
          • Accept
            • De Sardet: It would be an honor, Admiral.
            • Admiral Cabral: Welcome amongst your own people, De Sardet! I will send someone to tell the tattooist to receive you both.
            • Vasco: Thank you, Admiral.
            • Result: Go get a tattoo
          • Decline
            • De Sardet: It would be a real honor, but my life is not that of a Naut, I'm sorry.
            • Vasco: De Sardet, you do not have to live like us to—
            • Admiral Cabral: The legate has made a choice, Vasco, and it is an honorable decision. Now go! The tattooist will be expecting you, Vasco.
            • Vasco: Thank you, Admiral.
            • Result: Accompany Vasco to the tattooist

Go get a tattoo[]

  • De Sardet: We’ve come to receive our tattoos. The admiral should’ve informed you.
  • Naut Tattooist: Indeed! Congratulations to you both. With whom shall I begin?
  • Vasco: It’d be better if I went before De Sardet, I’m used to it.
  • Naut Tattooist: Then take a seat, Captain, it shouldn’t take long.
  • Vasco: De Sardet, we are ink siblings now!
  • De Sardet: It’s an honor, Vasco!

Accompany Vasco to the tattooist[]

  • Vasco: I have come to receive my tattoo. The admiral should’ve informed you?
  • Naut Tattooist: Indeed, Captain, congratulations! Well, take a seat. You know the drill.
  • Vasco: What do you think about it? I feel more Naut than ever!
  • De Sardet: Great! Congratulations, Vasco!
