Aurélia de Vespe is the daughter and youngest child of Prince Alexandre de Vespe, the ruler of Peren, Sérène's rival in the Congregation of Merchants.
Aurélia arrives with a wedding contract stating that she is to marry Constantin d'Orsay. She was married previously, but her husband was assassinated by her older brother for political reasons. She arrives at Teer Fradee with an entourage that consists mostly of assassins.
Lady Morange leaves a letter for De Sardet informing them of Aurélia's arrival and asking that De Sardet return to New Serene as soon as possible. De Sardet goes to speak with Lady Morange and learns about the rumors of the de Vespe family and their rivalry with the d'Orsay family.
